The Australian Space Agency has featured aKin in its Space Spotlight industry showcase, looking at how our AI and robots are designed to improve life in space and here on Earth.
aKin has developed its own foundation model AI. With no cloud computing available in space, it is built to be efficient, and to work alongside people with empathy and a real understanding of its surroundings.
In space, that means an AI companion that can support the wellbeing of astronauts on long missions, where help from Earth can be hours away. aKin first developed a habitat manager and robots for space in 2020, with the Australian Space Agency co-funding the work.
On Earth, the same technology powers our assistive technology for people living with disability. Co-designed with people with disability over around three years, it supports independent living and wellbeing at home, and is already in daily use.
As our Program Director Muhammad Arfin put it: “Here at aKin, we’ve built robots and AI that care.”
